Relief International

Livelihoods and Food Security
By increasing communities’ knowledge of sound agricultural methods suitable to the regional landscape and cultural needs, RI empowers farmers how to diversify viable crops, make the best use of the local growing season, as well as how to prepare against harvest and food deficiencies from floods, drought, and other environmental impacts. RI provides workshops in irrigation techniques and shallow well construction, seed selection and saving, and supports villages in the construction of food banks.

Livestock
In many regions of the world goats, donkeys, cows, and other livestock are used for food and transportation needs. Animal health is therefore central to the well being of families and their livelihoods. Because animal health is severely compromised during disaster or civil conflict, RI programs feature veterinary care for, fodder supply, restocking support, and training for community animal health workers who can sustainability deliver services into the future.

Small Business and Livelihoods
Economic stability depends on sound business practices and opportunities for achievement. Even at the smallest scale, entrepreneurship can be the bridge between total poverty and buoyant self-reliance. RI provides both the opportunities and the tools for people to start and sustain small businesses, which consequently generate income for their families and enhance the economic capacity of their communities. Through a combination of microfinance, and business courses, RI empowers individual, small group, and particularly women entrepreneurs to realize their vision for small shops, services, manufacture of goods, and farms.
